Setup of the AMS in the Institute of Nuclear Physics

Accelerator mass spectrometry - AMS allows the meausrement of long-lived radioactive nuclides with a very low detection limit. Therefore, extremely low concentrations of such isotopes can be measured. These measurements are used for dating purposes as well as for geochemiscal finger printing in various fields of Earth or Marine sciences, archaeology, hydrology, astrophysics, biochemistry and biomedicine.
