Information about the Accelerator

The CologneAMS facility for accelerator mass spectrometry (Acceleration Mass Spectrometry - AMS) at the University of Cologne that is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft) as well as the University of Cologne in order to improve the possibilites for measurements with accelerator mass spectrometry in Germany.

The AMS facility was installed in 2010 in the Institute of Nuclear Physics and is running routinely 10Be, 14C, 26Al, 36Cl and 244Pu. Tests with 41Ca and 53Mn are successfully performed. The heart of the facility is a 6 MV TANDETRON accelerator which is  equipped with foils and gas stripping systems.

Sample preparation labs are located at the Institute for Geology and Mineralogy.
